This paper mainly studies the distributed model predictive control (DMPC) based on state space model and its application for multivariable control system of power plant. First, the model predictive control based on state space model is studied, and the distri-buted model predictive control (DMPC) algorithm is analyzed. This control method can effectively simplify the difficulty of centralized predictive control, at the same time keep advantage of the model predictive control, such as its low accuracy requirement of model, well comprehensive control effect, and the convenient for operation online. Second, in view of the difficulty to measure some state variables in real industrial system, the algo-rithm is improved to establish a new state-space model which takes input and output values of historical moments as state variables. This improvement replaces the role of state observers, and ensures that controllers get accurate values of state variables during the process of optimal control. And analytic expression of the DMPC controller is stu-died when control unconstrained problems are of unconstrained. Finally, the distributed state model predictive control applications for boiler-turbine coordinate control system (CCS) and circulating fluidized bed (CFB) boiler combustion control system are intro-duced. These two systems respectively represent two typical multivariable control prob-lems. In the former one dynamic characteristic vary widely between subsystems, and the latter has strong coupling between variables. This paper applied the distributed state model predictive control method in the controller design of the two systems, and achieved good control effect, which proves the validity and superiority of the proposed controller.
