In this paper, based on the conclusion of the research status all over the world and their shortcomings,experiments were conducted to study the influence of physical property,structure,and operating parameters on the performance of OHP. During the experiment,considering the technological difficulties of the LED chips’development, the cylindrical oscillating heat pipe was uesd as the radiator of the LED chips and its cooling effect was tested. The main researches as follows:1. the plate oscillating heat pipe (POHP) with good performance was made successfully, the influences of working fluid, pipe diameter, filing ratio and numbers of turn to the thermal performance of the POHP were analyzed. In order to design and machine the OHP to be vacuumized and tested, the mastery of the processing technologies, such as the selection of material, cleaning, welding and sealing, is essential.2. The single plate OHP testing system was constructed to test the thermal performance of the OHP. In the test, the relationship between inclination angle along with heating power and the heat transfer performance of the OHP with different working fluid(water-pentanol solution with different pentanol concentrations) was tested and analyzed.3. For the purpose of exploring the heat transport limitation of the PHP with different working fluid(water and pentanol solution with the pentanol concentration of0.3%), the performance testing system was built correspondingly. According to the testing phenomena, the starting performance and heat transport limitation of the plate oscillating heat pipe were analyzed in detail.4. This paper concluded the design backgrounds of different LED radiators and how they worked. On this basis, several LED radiators with different structural styles with the cylindrical and PHPs were designed and, at the same time, the test-platform of the cylindrical radiator applied with OHP has been built, representing the success of the oscillating heat pipe’s application to the LED radiator. The test analyzed the cooling effect of the cylindrical radiator with different woking fluid, working powers of the LED chip and illuminating angles. As a result, it can be concluded that this kind of radiator can control the center node temperature successfully and has many unique advantages,such as light weight, small in size, ease of processing and good cooling effect, compared to other conventional radiators, providing an important research direction in this field.
