Geomagnetically induced current (GIC) caused by the magnetic storm will produce DC bias in the power transformer, and DC bias can lead to the effects of power transformer under GIC. The GIC will not only affect the operation of power transformers, but also threaten the security of the entire power system. Due to the complexity of the transformer hysteresis loop’s nonlinear, and the transformer theoretical model under GIC has not been validated in the experiment, while the experimental study conducted on the prototype is often limited by the security of the power system, this paper proposed a method of using simulation experiment to study the effects of power transformer under GIC.This paper first analyzed the effects of the transformer under GIC, then proposed the method of the dynamic simulation experiment according to the characteristics of effects on transformer under GIC. Six single-phase transformers constitute two transformers experiment on the transformer with GIC was performed. The waveforms of exciting currents, first winding currents of such three-phase transformer, vibration, noise of transformer with different DC bias and different loads were measured and analyzed, which provide a reference for the actual power system response to the geomagnetically induced current.
