To give priority to urban public transit is an important measure to solve problemsof urban traffic congesion and environmental pollution.The public transit network isthe basis of public transit in operation,and bus network optimization is the mosteconomical and effective method to improve the service level of public transit systemand the rate of passenger flow attracted.Therefore the study of urban transit networkoptimization is of great significance.The methodology of multi-objective optimization of bus network is workedon.The following five parts are mainly contained:Firstly,the characteristics of bus passenger flow are discussed.On the basis ofanalysing the general contents of the characteristic of resident trips and the influencefactors of bus passenger flow,characteristics of bus passenger trip are analyzedconsidering spatial and temporal distribution.This part is not only the realistic basis ofsearching the travel route in a bus trip and transit assignment,but also the root of busnetwork optimization.Secondly,the target system of bus network optimization is investigated.Thecommon goals of bus network optimization are analyzed.In addition,energyconservation and emissions reduction in bus network optimization is proposed,and theoptimization models are given.From the perspective of travelers’ demands,enterpriseand environmental benefit,the overall optimization goals are determined.Thirdly,the multi-objective optimization model for bus network optimization isinvestigated.The principles,influence factors and constraints of bus networkoptimization are introduced.The model concept is determined based on processingmethods to multi-objective programming problems.The optimizationprinciple,influence factors and constraints of public transit network areintroduced.Then the necessity and methods of hierarchical classification for busnetwork are discussed based on different functions of bus lines.According to theoverall optimization goals determined, optimization objectives and constraints ofdifferent levels of bus network are determined,and the corresponding multi-objectiveoptimization models are constructed.Fourthly,the methodology of multi-objective optimization of bus network isinvestigated.The general model and process of bus network optimization are introduced.After research of initial candidate routes generation and travel routesoptimal choice which is related to transit assignment,an improved Genetic Algorithmimported the idea of Simulated Annealing Algorithm is proposed which modifiesseleetion operator of Genetic Algorithm and is used in bus network optimization.Anumerical example is used to verify the proposed algorithm.Considering the existingbus network this paper investigates the methods of inspection and adjustment to theinitial optimized bus network.Finally,Multi-objective optimization of bus network in urban area of Putian takenas the background,a real example is used to verify the practical value and significanceof the study.
