In order to guarantee the reliable operation of power equipment and power system, The secondary DC system which supply operational power to power control system must be safe, reliable and convenient for maintenance. At present, the secondary DC system is supplied by storage batteries. So the failure of storage batteries can cause damage to power facilities, failure of the DC system, failure of the entire power grid,personal injury and so on. This make the state and grid companies have a great loss. So research of maintenance technology for storage battery in secondary DC system has important meaning in practice.A key to ensure the normal operation of DC system is the maintenance for the batteries. The battery will produce irreversible sulfation in the process of operation. When plate sulfation of the battery is too severe to charge and discharge normally, there isn’t DC power supply in the DC system. Aiming at plate sulfation of the battery in the DC system, this paper introduces a battery on-line activating charger and analyzes the device which has fundamental, structure and the experimental results. In the process of maintenance, using the device to activate the battery which have plate sulfation, it will make the battery return to health. This paper also puts forward a smart management scheme for storage batteries. This scheme predicts battery capacity of all substations by the BP neural network algorithm and arranges maintenance order of storage batteries through the result of prediction. At last, the smart management scheme for storage batteries is used in the actual substation. The result verified the correctness and rationality of the smart management scheme for storage batteries.
