With the deepening research of active safety, it has become recognized thatvehicles, drivers and road environment constitute a closed-loop system to influencethe vehicle’s running safety. As the decision maker, the driver’s impact is the mostconclusive. Hence, more and more research is being done on the driver’s manipulationbehavior of the vehicle, aiming to establish the driver model in mathematical way.The research of driver model is not only the demand of active safety but also the baseof the autonomous vehicle technology.The driver-in-loop simulation technology is the branch of the hardware-in-loopsimulation technology. It can simulate the vehicle, road path and traffic environmentto set up all kinds of simulation experiments. It is the technology platform to realizethe research on the interaction of the driver, vehicle and road environment. It avoidsthe high cost and risk of vehicle test and provides a practical platform for the researchon active safety technology.The article is based on multi-point preview method and model prediction controlalgorithm to build the vehicle path following model and conducts the simulation inMatlab/Simulink. It is aimed to study the driver’s control of the vehicle’s direction.The driver-in-the-loop simulation platform is constructed by the virtualinstrument technology to conduct some related driver-in-the-loop simulationexperiments. The feasibility of the vehicle path following model is verified bycomparing the simulation results through the precision of path following, thereasonability of steering angle and the evaluation indexes of handling stability.
