Because of its outstanding features in specific strength, corrosion resistance, installation, etc, FRP(Fiber Reinforced Ploymer/Plastic) has had gained a high publicpraise in the civil engineering circles, thus applied to many kinds of structures. However, traditional man-made fiber doesn’t have a good performance in promoting agreen and sustainable development. In order to meet the environmental demand anddevelop sustainable materials, using natural fiber to replace man-made fiber in FiberReinforced Polymer/Plastic has a good prospect. Natural Fiber ReinforcedPolymer/Plastic has attracted the focus of many countries and regions. The thesis uses jute fiber to replace man-made fiber in FRP and adds sisal fiberinto concrete. The behavior of Jute Fiber Reinforced Polymer/Plastic(JFRP) confinedplain concrete(PC) and JFRP confined Sisal Fiber Reinforced Concrete(SFRC) isstudied.Tensile behavior of JFRP sheet is studied. The experiment improved mechanicalproperties of JFRP by alkali treatment of jute fiber. A test of tensile behavior onUn-Treated Jute Fiber Reinforced Polymer/Plastic(UT-JFRP) and Alkali-Treated JuteFiber Reinforced Polymer/Plastic(AT-JFRP) is conducted. The test showed that alkalitreatment improves the quality of JFRP. The tensile parameters, including tensilestrength, ultimate tensile strain, tensile modulus and stress-strain curves, are acquired.Compressive experiments of JFRP confined plain concrete and JFRP confinedSisal Fiber Reinforced Concrete is conducted. With the displacement loading control, the axial force, axial deformation and hoop strain are measure by force sensors, displacement sensors and strain gages. The experiment showed that JFRP confinedconcrete have a higher compressive behavior than unconfined concrete.Compressive strength model and ultimate strain model of JFRP confined plainconcrete is studied. The thesis first studies the existing compressive strength modelsand ultimate strain models of FRP confined concrete. A comparison of experimentresult and existing models are carried out. A modified strength model and ultimatestrain model for JFRP confined concrete is proposed then.Compressive strain-stress model of JFRP confined plain concrete is studied. Thethesis first studies the existing stress-strain models of FRP confined concrete. Thenthe author studies the existing stress-strain models, makes a comparison and proposesa stress-strain model for JFRP confined concrete. Theoretical study of JFRP confined Sisal Fiber Reinforced Concrete is conducted.A comparison of JFRP confined plain concrete and JFRP confined Sisal FiberReinforced Concrete is carried out. Then modified models of strength, ultimate strainand stress-strain relationship are proposed through analysis.
