With the rapid development of economic and continuously improved of people’s living standards, the difference between peak load of power systems increased year by year, but the maximum number of using number becomes declining. In response to the growing difference between peak load, need to invest a lot of manpower and resources to the grid load shifting load, but simply rely on expanding the scale of investment to increase capacity or simply upgrade for the expansion of transmission and distribution lines, not only costly, but also low capacity utilization. To solve this problem, this paper proposes using battery energy storage system for grid load shifting, through the charge and discharge of energy storage systems to achieve earnings.Firstly, on the basis of existing control strategies on a typical load shifting, this paper proposed constant power discharge load shifting strategies and power difference control strategies, which considering the actual constraints, through the simulation analysis to compared the advantages and disadvantages of the two control strategies; Secondly, based on the actual situation of the grid, the paper analysed the economic benefits and investment costs of the battery energy storage system used in load shifting, which contains direct benefits, delaying investment benefits environmental benefits and the specific costs and so on. Then, based on the typical characteristics of various battery technologies, select the appropriate battery for load shifting. The economic model based on game theory modeling and used genetic algorithms to detemine the appropriate type and capacity of the battery. At the end, the paper studied on the planning calculation of the energy storage power station.
