The transmission lines generally expose in the wild, so the professional tour cycle of transmission lines are long, and its safety regulation is difficult. With the development of national economy and society, the external risks of transmission lines have become increasing apparent, especially the trees under the transmission lines pose a growing threat to the safety regulation of transmission lines. Now the normal way to measure the distance between the trees and the transmission lines is to use the electronic theodolite, not only its self-calibration measurement accuracy is low, but also, when we use the electronic theodolite, we must select the operating platform level measurement, and its eyepiece measuring range is limited, so the trees in the special area of the transmission lines cannot be measured in this way. This paper studied the technology theory of the unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV), and propose a new way with UAV equipped with ultrasonic sensors to measure the distance between the trees and the transmission lines. The technology theory with ultrasonic sensors to measure the distance, video acquisition device and the wireless image channel transmission module, data, processing after the distance information and image signal superimposed on the same interface. The technology theory can has intuitive and practical observation effect and can obtain more accurate measurement results.According to the practical application of UAV ultrasonic distance measurement technology, this paper analyzed the prospect of the use of this technology in the collaborative touring to the transmission lines by helicopters, UAVs, and human being. At last, this paper analyzed the difficulties and problems of the technology of ultrasonic ranging in transmission lines, and propose solutions to some corresponding problems.
