The continual rigid frame bridge with high pier and long span was widespread usedbecause of the features: explicit about force, driving unimpeded, the mature technique ofconstruction etc. It becomes the mountainous structure form via valleys and rivers andgrows towards long span and flexibility. This pier belongs to compression-bendingcomponent in theoretical design, it makes the stability of high pier more and moreimportant,The continuous rigid frame bridge is multiple statically indeterminatestructure, Due to its long-term in the natural environment by solar radiation andtemperature changes and so on, result in producing the greater the deformation andstress, and even lead to the bridge produces the severe damage caused by a major bridgeaccident. Therefore, analysis of temperature effect and stability of continuous rigidframe bridge is very necessary.Pier’s section type has a direct impact on the mechanical properties and structuralstability. hence an in-depth research into the characteristic and computional methodabout highly flexible pier is quite necessary. This paper based on Sha Tangba bridge, forthose questions mentioned above, the following researches have been addressed.①Give an theoretical analysis on the stability of continuous rigid frame bridge’s highpier during construction. Discuss two types of stability problems and several methodsfor solving critical load values. Criteria of stability judgment is also discussed.②Through the structural’s finite element calculation to compare the stabilitycapability of the different kinds of sections of high pier’s the biggest cantilever state andthe finished bridge state which considered the impact of dead load and exogenic actions.③Through theoretical analysis and finite element calculations, comparative analysisof the deformation and stress conditions of high pier continuous rigid frame bridge withdifferent types of cross-section under the integrated temperature changes load.④Through theoretical analysis and finite element calculations, comparative analysisof the deformation and stress conditions of high pier continuous rigid frame bridge withdifferent types of cross-section under the main beam temperature gradient and Piertemperature gradient.
