Electromagnetic flowmeter is a velocity-type flowmeter, which is foundedon Faraday’s induction law. Because of its unique features, it has been widely usedin industrial production fields. In recent years, with the improvement of theintegrated circuit design technical, many high precision and reliability signalprocessing chips for the electromagnetic flowmeter has been developed. With thoseintegrated chips, the electromagnetic flowmeter’s performance has a furtherimprovement in measurement accuracy, system power consumption and so on. Thispaper analysed the research status and development trend of the electromagneticflowmeter at domestic and abroad. And this paper designed the lower poweredelectromagnetic flowmeter using the MSP430microcontroller. The electromagneticflowmeter was supplied by batteries, which suited for portable applications.The main work of the dissertation includes:1) The related literature of electromagnetic flowmeter was reviewed, and thestatus development of electromagnetic flowmeter at domestic and abroad wassummarized. The basic theory, design methods and research results were introducedin detail.2) A new battery powered electromagnetic flow converter was developed. In thehardware design, the advanced design technologies was adopted. And the integratedchip instead of the discrete component design in the excitation circuit and signalprocessing circuit was used. In the software, the modular design concept was adopted,so it was convenient to program and debug.3) A electromagnetic flow sensor of high excitation efficiency was designed,which reduced the excitation current and improved the excitation efficiency. Thesystem measurement precision from the signal source was developed.4) A low power excitation algorithm was proposed. Using this algorithm, themeasuring precision was improved and the system power consumption was reduced. 5) The electromagnetic flowmeter prototype was calibrated using the standardmeter method. And the experimental result showed that the prototype precision was0.5%, and the performance met the design requirement.
