As one important ancillary service in electricity market, automatic generationcontrol (AGC) is also one of the most important functions of energy management system(EMS). In the planned economy pattern, the objective of AGC participating in thefrequency and tie-line power control was only to ensure the operation stability of powersystem, regardless of economical factors. The dispatching center assigned AGCregulation based on unit performances and system requirement. The incoming of a powerplant was only decided by the generated energy, which is independent of AGC servicesupplied by it. With the reform of operation mechanism and the formation of electricitymarket, the system frequency regulation is not simply a dispatch issue. Because of thechange in administrative and economic affiliation relations, AGC ancillary service isfaced with many new complex problems. The solution to them is the premise of thefurther development of AGC in electricity market. At present, AGC ancillary service afterbeing deregulated has become one important issue of many scholars and powercompanies. The problem of AGC unit dispatch in generation market is addressed fromboth the orential and practical perspectives in this paper.The thesis firstly sums up the definition, class and mode of electricity market andanalyzes the change of AGC ancillary service with construction of electricity marketstatus and tendency of AGC ancillary service. In addition, the AGC units control strategyis elaborated based on AGC ancillary service framework being built. Method thatdemends for capacity and rate of AGC regulation is confirmed according to the analysisof AGC units, the histrical statistic is posed.Finally, with appearence of problem existingin process when AGC unit respond to the test, the thesis puts forward the method ofcalculating real time operation.The AGC units can be chosen until capacity and rate of the regulation arecomfirmed. This thesis pose up to that way by which AGC unit is being dispatched basedon particle storm optimized algorithm. The whole process is involved in analyzing thealgorithm itself and improving that algorithm. The final experiment shows that themethod applied for is remarkable in the respect of maneuverability and goodperformance, which will reduce the cost of AGC operation. What’s more, the profit forpower plant increases.
