In order to study the energy-dissipation performance of K shape eccentricallybraced steel frames with replaceable link consisted by two channels and to analysisthe influence of connection between link and beam on the performance of EBF.Nonlinear finite element analysis for15samples with different connection wasperformed by ANSYS. The influence of the diameter of bolts, the thickness of beam’sreinforcement plates, the spacing of bolts and the distance from centre of the hole tothe end of the plate on the strength, rigid, deformability and energy-dissipationperformance of EBF systems has been studied. The result shows that the connection configurations between link and beam havemore influence on structural strength, deformability and energy-dissipation but lessinfluence on structural rigid. Fracture in the bolt shank results in a brittle response instructure and bear failure results in a ductile response in structure. The link’senergy-dissipation performs better when the capacity of the connection is higher, andadditional inelastic rotation capacity can be achieved in the connection when allowingbolt bearing deformations to occur. At the end of this thesis, suggestions on design ofthe replaceable link based on finite element simulation results are present.
