There is a large number of traditional tracks with small radius curve in the west of China.Because of inappropriate alignment and the large temperature difference between day andnight and different seasons, tracks with small radius curve are prone to subject manycomplicated problems, such as gauge widening, track swelling, asymmetric abrasion, whichrestricts the train speed and increases track maintenance and repair work. To solve thisproblem, laying continuous welded rails is used in China. According the rules, curve radius ofcontinuous welded rail must not be less than400m, and the temperature difference of railsmust not be higher than72℃. In the actual rail, there are only continuous welded rail testsection of300m radius, so it is very important to break the least radius limits and spread300msmall radius curve continuous welded rail. Based on continuous welded rails betweenLijiawan and Gelaoba of Sichuan-Guizhou line, the mail research work in this thesis are asfollows:(1) According to the existing theory of strength and stability of continuous welded rail, temperature difference of rail was calculated with computer-aided software Matlab.Compared result of calculation with result of experiments, it can be confirmed that whetherlaying continuous welded rails is feasible.(2) Based on above parameters, test section of continuous welded rails was laid andperformance of lateral resistance, longitudinal stability, lateral stability, abrasion was tested. With the curve graph, it can be analyzed that whether continuous welded rails of small radiuscurve can show better performance and whether laying continuous welded rails is feasible.(3) The finite element model of continuous welded rails of small radius curve was builtwith finite element software ANSYS. After calculation, the curve graph about lateralresistance, sleeper and fastener was drawed, which can show whether laying continuouswelded rails is feasible, and adjustments can be made in the process of construction.By comparison of theoretical analysis, numerical simulation and experiment, the resultsare close, which showed continuous welded rails between Lijiawan and Gelaoba ofSichuan-Guizhou line is feasible. On this basis, laying and welding method and requirementof continuous welded rails of small radius curve was worked out, which can providedtheoretical basis for the transformation of other similar continuous welded rails of smallradius curve.
