Lithium ion battery (LIB) has the advantages of high voltage, high capacity, small volume, light weight, environmental protection, long service life and so on. LIB has been widely used in various portable electronic products, such as mobile phone, notebook computer, digital camera, electric tools, etc. However, since2006, a number of lithium ion battery has fired and exploded in notebook computer and mobile phone, which greatly challenged the reliability of lithium ion batteries, and the applications in electric cars has been doubted. The safety of lithium ion battery, especially in high temperature, overcharge, short circuit conditions, has become technical problems that must be overcome.Nano alumina is one of special functional nanomaterials has important application values and development prospects, shows good thermal stability, high chemical stability, corrosion resistance, high hardness and a series of excellent properties. It has been widely used in ceramic materials, biomedical materials, semiconductor materials, catalyst carrier, surface protective layer materials and optical materials. And it is expected to improve the safety performance of lithium ion battery. This dissertation mainly studies that the negative plate of lithium ion battery coated alumina coating, in order to improve the safety performance of the battery. Alumina coating is here as a thermal layer, capable of extreme reaction occurs in the cell. It become a part of the heat absorption, thereby reducing the absorption of carbon anode materials for heat. On the other hand, it can quickly spread to prevent heat, reduce the intensity of reaction, thereby reducing the risk of thermal runaway.
