People always ignore the influence of beam-to-column semi-rigid connections and panel zone shear deformation in traditional design of steel frame. However, the semi-rigid connections and the shear deformation of panel zone will reduce the lateral stiffness of the steel frames, and increase the second-order effects of structure, thus affecting the internal force, the lateral, the ultimate load-bearing capacity and the stability, the dynamic performance of the steel frames, which could not be neglected to design steel frame. In order to study the influence of the semi-rigid connections and the shear deformation of panel zone to steel frame, this paper conducted the following researches:(1) Briefly introduces the characteristics and the mechanical properties of the semi-rigid connections, and discusses the design requirements and defects of the panel zone in the criterion of China, and its commonly used analytical models.(2) SAP2000was employed the second elastic-plastic analysis for the steel frame with eight floors; By changing the initial stiffness of connections and the stiffness of panel zone to discuss the influence of the semi-rigid connections and the panel zone shear deformation to the ratio of rigidity-to-gravity, the internal force, the lateral, the ultimate load-bearing capacity and the stability of the steel frame, and puts forward Suggestions for the design of steel frame.(3) SAP2000was employed the model analysis for the steel frame; Discussing the influence of the semi-rigid connections and the shear deformation of panel zone to the natural period of the steel frame, as the initial stiffness of connections and the stiffness of panel zone decreases, the natural period increases, but the influence to the natural period of the high order can be ignored.(4) SAP2000was employed the elastic-plastic time history analysis under rare earthquakes for the steel frame with nine floors; Discussing the influence of the semi-rigid connections and the panel zone shear deformation to the vertex displacement, the bottom shear force and the each floor’s displacement of the structure; Although the displacement of each floor will increase, but the bottom shear force will reduce, and the energy dissipation capacity and the ductility of the steel frame will improve, it is beneficial to seismic design.
