As an important auxiliary equipment of power plant boilers, rotary air preheaters areextensively used for their high heat transfer efficiency, well corrosion resistance, longservice life, and so on. As the core component of rotary air preheaters, the property of theheat transfer elements thermal performance directly determines the safe and efficientoperation of rotary air preheaters. Therefore, it is of great significance to research on heattransfer and resistance characteristics of different elements and the internal temperaturefield distribution of rotary air preheater for improving the performance and ensuring thesafe efficient operation of the rotary air preheaters.In the paper, the method of numerical simulation has been used to research on theheat transfer and resistance characteristics of heat transfer elements, which will providethe basis for the design and thermal checking calculation of the rotary air-preheater,provide a theoretical support for the design and selection of heat transfer elements. Athree-dimensional numerical model of heat transfer elements has been set up in commonuse, and we can receive the characteristic curves of heat transfer and resistance. Bynumerical simulations on models of different corrugated angle and step between locatingplate and corrugated plate, the regulation that heat transfer performance Nu number andresistance coefficient f of response element changed with inclination angle and pitch ofcorrugations has been obtained. Based on the structure and working principle of rotaryair-preheater, a simplification three-dimensional model is built. After the numericalsimulation, we can get the temperature distribution of outlet fule gas and air, and thetemperature distribution of each section of the heat transfer elements. Compared theresults of numerical simulation with the results of field experimental studies onmeasuring the cold end metal temperature of600MW rotary air-preheater, the results ofnumerical simulation has the same trend on temperature with the field test results, so it isreasonable to believe that the methods are reasonable, and the results of numericalsimulation are reliable.
