The detection method of partial discharge (PD) using ultrasonic array signals is anew method that applies the array sensor and array signal process technique (ASPT)to the PD detection. The ultrasonic array sensor with high quality and reasonabledimension is the key of the PD detection in electrical equipment.This paper is supported by National Natural Science Foundation ofChina(51307060)“Research on the extraction strategy of partial dischargeultrasonic array signals”, Natural Science Foundation of Hebei Province in China(2010001703)“Research on the location of partial discharge in power transformerbased on ultrasonic array sensors” and the Fundamental Research Funds for theCentral Universities (09MG09)“Research on the location of partial discharge intransformer using ultrasonic phased array”, emphatically to carry out the researchon evaluating the PD ultrasonic array sensor’s acoustic performance and its sparsedesign. The main contents are as follows:Studied the method of acoustic performance quantitative for the PDultrasonic array sensors. As for circular, square, cross, linear PD ultrasonic arraysensors, their directivity function is derived based on Huygens’ Principle.Demonstrates the necessity of the quantitative evaluation of acoustic performance;Then, the directive accuracy and the maximum amptitude of side lobe are selectedas indexes to establishing the quantitive evaluation model of PD ultrasonic arraysensor’s acoustic performance.A sparse design method of PD ultrasonic array sensor based on thecombination of the acoustic performance evaluation. To9circular, square, cross andlinear array ultrasonic sensor as an example of PD ultrasonic array sensors. Inacoustic performance evaluation value as the evaluation index. So as to arrive at the2sparsity acoustic properties of each formation variation. After emulating andexperimental researching, we can find when the sparseness is2and the dot numberis9, the lateral accuracy of circular array, square array, cross array and linear arraywith better sparsity structure is superior to that with suboptimum sparsity structure.Finally, building a transformer to carry out experimental studies. Experimentalstudy on multi-type PD ultrasonic sensor array sparse design to discharge directionfinding precision.
