Harmonics are a major problem of power quality, harmonics cause equipmentmalfunction on the line, premature failure, loss and overheating electrical fault,especially the transformer will produce excessive noise, excessive wear and tear,excessive temperature rise, etc. a series of questions. How to suppress or eliminatethe power system harmonics, to minimize the impact of harmonics ontransformers, power systems ensure safe, stable operation is necessary.To this end, this paper based on the principle of harmonics generated,elaborated the adverse effects of harmonics on transformers, harmonic analysis ofthe impact of the transformer loss problem using the superposition principle, theestablishment of an equivalent model of transformer losses, calculated byanalyzing the obtained and then from the perspective of how to avoid transformerdesign or reduce the impact of harmonics on the transformer, the final analysiscomparing the impact of today’s more popular reactive power compensation andharmonic filtering equipment on the line, where both live and through simulationmodels comparison, focuses on the effects of harmonics on STATCOM role aswell as transformers.
