Sewer system is an important part of the municipal infrastructure. With the rapiddevelopment of cities, the sewer systems were frequently overloading and get intoabnormal operation due to the low standard design, long service life and somehistorical reason, and so on. As a result, the overflow of wastewater and waterlogginghappened frequently that threatens the city safety. Digitization of sewer system is aimportant way to improve the operation and management of sewer system as it canrealized the system analysis, optimal design, operation and management of sewersystem.The sewer system of Beixiao river basin was adopted as the research object in thestudy. The study carried out based on the model development and numerical simulationof sewer system and the optimal operation strategy was proposed against the problemssuch as the overloading, overflow in the region. The development of sewer systemmodel of Beixiao river region conducted the basic data collection, data analysis andmodel calibration. Based on the simulation of sewer system model, the optimaloperation strategy was proposed by the integrated adjustment strategy and set up of thestorage tank of sewer system that can reach the maximum flow capacity and optimaloperation efficiency of sewer system. The contents of the paper are based on the worksof the author. The hydraulic model described in the paper has been in satisfactory usewith the models and software systems in stable use, part system installation workfinished and needed management arrangement in place.The research results indicated that the mathematical simulation is a usefull tool forthe optimal operation and effect evaluation of sewer system. The optimal operationstrategy and scheduling scheme were proposed and the key design parameters alsowere determined. The implementation of the optimal strategy will enhance theoperational efficiency of the sewer system in the study region.
