Nowadays, with the development of economy and the improvement of livingstandards, network develops rapidly. Electrical equipment which operates under highload all the time has a major fire hazard. The characteristics of electrical fire aredistributive, persistent and elusive. The electrical fire not only causes electricalequipment damage, casualties and losses directly, but also affects the production ofelectric energy and transport, which leads to large-scale and long time of power failure,and brings huge indirect loss. Therefore, it is very important to find out thecountermeasures and to search for the warning system to prevent and control theelectrical fire effectively.Wire can release all kinds of poisonous gases in the process of combustion, and thesegases are primarily for identification and monitoring of electronic nose for electrical firedetection. The electrical fire simulator and the electronic nose system were introduced firstin the paper. The combustion process of wires can be simulated by the electrical firesimulator by controlling heating temperature which may be caused by short circuit and soon. The homemade Gas-sensing Materials of High Throughput Screening Platform (HTSP-GM) was used as an electronic nose system, which overcame many defects of the testplatform on the market. The platform has high efficiency, which can test36kinds ofmaterials in a test at the same time. The chip can realize the reuse by using the tabletprocess and can be used by removing materials directly after each test.After introducing the platform, the feasibility of early detection of electrical fire byelectronic nose was researched in this paper. WO3and In2O3were used as gas sensingmaterials in this study and modified through the way of micro-injection. A36-arraysensing material chip was fabricated and highly sensitive materials were screened outthrough the method of high throughput screening. In order to investigate the effect oftemperature on the PVC insulated wires and judge the ability of gas sensor compared to thermal analysis for early detection of electrical fire, thermal analysis test was done.Furthermore, the microscopic mechanism was analyzed on gas sensor responsecharacteristic of WO3and In2O3in this part.At last, the application research of early detection of electrical fire by electronic nosewas carried out in this paper. The volatile gases emitted from PVC insulated wires weredetected and then through proper feature extraction, test results were analyzed statisticallyby the pattern recognition technology (linear discriminant analysis and MLP neuralnetwork).
