In the Supercooled Large Droplets(SLD) icing conditions,the aircraft would cause alarge area of destruction on the aircraft wing and affect the aircraft’s flight controlseriously. Currently, the traditional icing sensor’ probe is too small and have a Insufficientheat transfer capability. In addition, The SLD icing may occur outside the security zone,the ice detector must be able to distinguish between "normal icing" and "SLD icing".Accordingly, we need to design an ice detector which must have a high freeze coefficientand can detect both normal icing and SLD icing.This dissertation describes the principle of the supercooled large droplets ice dectorwhich is based on fiber optic sensor. we designed two SLD ice dector by using theFENSAP-ICE icing calculation software. With the modulation and the weak signaldetection theory, we designed the processing circuit. The data acquisition system isdesigned with the STM32Chip.The data processing platform is designed with the MFC framework. In this dataprocessing platform, the MSComm Active Control and the Teechart Active Control areused to implement communication and real-time curve showing. In addition, The Accessdatabase is used to store data.The icing experiments in the laboratory is conducted to research the characteristics ofthe sensor. According to the results, we gained the relationship between the sensors’outputvoltage and ice thickness initially. In addition, the wind tunnel icing experiments is donein Mianyang wind tunnel. According to the results,this ice dector have the capability todistinguish between normal icing and SLD icing.
