In recent years, wind power as a renewable energy has attracted more and moreattention in the world for its commercial potential. With the increase of wind power inboth capacity and proportion, the negative impact of wind power due to itsrandomness and volatility on power system is increasingly prominent. It has beensignificantly to study on the optimal operation of power system with large-scale windpower in order to guarantee the security, reliability and economy of power system. This paper mainly studies the optimal operation of power system with large-scalewind power in the electricity market. Considering that there is a variety of powersupply which contains hydro plants, wind farms and thermal units in the powersystem, the hydropower and wind power are preferentially purchased according totheir characteristics and the relevant national policy requirements, while the thermalunits are chosen according to the price. Hydropower is firstly adopted to reduce thepeak load, while wind farms will supply the forecasting value of wind power and thecorresponding fluctuation interval, based on which a new thermal unit commitmentmodel is proposed, whose main idea is: the minimum equivalent load is calculatedaccording to the maximum output of wind power, and take the minimum equivalentload as the bidding capacity to determine the start-up thermal units, then it is verifiedwhether the preliminary boot mode can meet the maximum equivalent load, if not, wind power will be curtailed at the minimum equivalent load moment to increase thebidding capacity, and the new thermal units are started to improve the peakingcapacity of power system until the maximum equivalent load is met. After the booting mode is determined, an optimal power flow model with thegoal of minimizing the generation cost is put forward to distribute the load. Theconstrained cost variable method is adopted to turn the non smooth optimizationproblem into smooth one, then the interior point method is used to solve the OPFmodel. At last the correctness and feasibility of the optimal operation model and itssolving method are verified through case study.
