This paper focuses on the collapse of the center tube in the storage of cement clinkerhappened in a cement plant. The composition, structure and properties of concrete for thecenter tube were investiged, in order to clarify the cause of this accident, and provide aguidance for the preparation of heat-resistant concrete used for the storage of cementclinker. The results will provide the guideline to the concrete mixture that applied in thespecial field. The research significances in this thesis are described in detail as follows:1.The effects of the properties of raw materials on the quality of heat-resistant concrete.The influences of firmness, crushing index, volume stability, chemical and mineralcompositions of the slag and coarse aggregate on the quality of heat-resistant concretewere investigated.2. The chemical and mineral compositions of the deteriorated concretewere analysed and compared with that of the well hardened concrete, in order toinvestigate the effect of curing conditions on the volume stability of unhydrated cement inconcrete.3.The pore structure of concrete and morphology of the hydration products werealso studied.The results showed: the reason of the collapse of the center tube in the storage ofcement clinker is due to the improper selection of coarse aggregate for the preparation ofheat-resistant concrete. The using of free CaO and free MgO contained slag as the coarseaggregate react with water to form Ca(OH)2and Mg(OH)2in hot and humid conditions,results in a high expansion rate of the hardened concrete, thus leading to the deteriorationof concrete. And Based on the requests of strength and heat-resistant for the concretestructure used as the storage of cement clinker, in order for its successful design andstrength stability, the concerte with long-term stability of temperature. The heat-resistantconcrete was successful prepared, which presented an appropriate strength and goodthermal stability.
