With the oil resource exhausting and increasingly stringent emission regulations,There is an urgent need to find a renewable alternative fuel which can reduce the harmfulgas emission as much as possible on the premise of guarantee the power of engine. Thus,biodiesel has become a promising fuel. Due to the higher viscosity, the biodiesel droplet isnot easy to break up during the injection process, which influents the distribution ofbiodiesel in the combustion chamber. While Double Swirl Combustion System can solvethese issues to some extent through special structure. It is of great prospects to combinebiodiesel with Double Swirl Combustion System.This article first launches the atomization and broken mechanism of biodiesel. Thespray characteristics are studied. The research status in china and other countries isanalysed. At the same time, Double Swirl Combustion System get further studied in orderto master its working characteristics and application conditions.Secondly, according as the former research achievements, The visualization researchof biodiesel spray characteristics under both evaporation and non evaporation state iscarried out in a constant volume vessel by using the schlieren method and high-speedphotography technology. Effects of different experimental conditions on biodiesel spraycharacteristics are analysed.Then, based on the experimental results. Calculation models of three kinds ofcombustion chamber are established using AVL Fire software. The combustion conditionsin those chambers are studied, combustion and emission characteristics of biodiesel inDouble Swirl Combustion System are emphatically analyzed. At the same time, the oilamount of indoor and outdoor in DS combustion chamber under different conditions isstudied, and the effect of inner oil mass fraction on engine performance is analyzed. At last,some performance optimization works have been done on Double Swirl CombustionSystem.
