With the development of economy in our country,highway and tunnelconstructions resulted in large scales of earthworks, which destroyed much vegetationthat were once there before. If no protections are set on the earth slope, it can lead toproblems like water and soil loss, losing stability and collapsing of the side slope, andseriously destroy local ecological conditions. Research results from ecological slopeprotection, geotechnical engineering, ecological restoration projects, and botanystudies were used together to develop the method of soil fixation with plantscontaining water. Ecological slope protection considered both the stability of theslope and restoration of the plants. This might be a new technique in this area, but it isdeveloping very fast, and will be the future guide for slope protection developments.This essay is based on large amount of literature data about ecologicalprotection,plant species of soil reinforcement and slope stability analysis. And withthe background of LeiXi highway slope protection project in ziwuling forestdistrict,Gansu province,we explore the suitable plant species for this district and theinfluences on the slope stability of ecological protection.First of all, based on the study of present slope protection style in Loess area,and the technology comparison of present ecological protection style of slope,wepropose the suitable form of ecological protection in the region. Then combined withthe vegetation distribution characteristics of Ziwuling forest, we investigate the plantsspecies adopeted in other highway slope protection in the same region. And withreference to the relevant literature,we propose the suitable ecological protection plantspecies for the study area.Secondly, for the chosen form of ecological protection and plant species,weconduct a real-time monitoring on soil slope stress and displacement for the chosentypical slope.And by comparison with the prime soil slope, the effect of ecologicalprotection can be revealed.Again, after simplifying the actual slope model and the plant root model, weestablish finite difference models to analysis and calculate. Respectively, we compare the slope stress field of the local model with and without roots of plant. It showed thatplant root can reduce the stress level of the shallow layer of soil,which at the sametime means that the effect of ecological protective is limited by the depth of plantroot in the soil.Finally, using the method of strength reduction, we analysis on the wholestability of slope and find out the safety factor of slope.The result indicates that theplant roots cannot obviously help to reinforce for the deep landslide outside the rangeof influence of plant root. Meanwhile, the value of plastic strain and displacement ofthe shallow soil reduced after ecological protection.Therefore,it is obvious that theecological protection of slope is beneficial for the improvement of slope stress andstability of shallow slope.
