In order to improve handling stability, mobility and flexibility to meet therequirements of complex environments,four-wheel steering technology has become atrend of commercial vehicles.In low-speed conditions, the front and rear wheelsreverse rotation, commercial vehicle can improve mobility and turning radius can bereduced; in high-speed conditions, the front and rear wheels rotate in the samedirection to improve handling and stability of commercial vehicles.The rear steeringsystem is the core of four-wheel steering technology. Therefore, the kinematic anddynamic analysis of rear wheel steering mechanism become increasingly important.In this paper, in connection with the particularity of commercial vehicle rearwheel steering mechanism, analyzing the characteristics of rear-wheel steeringmechanism according to the knowledge of automotive design, automotive theory,kinematics of space-link and multi-body dynamics.Firstly, introduce the researchbackground and significance and briefly describe the composition,type anddevelopment of the rear-wheel steering mechanism in recent years. Secondly,discusses the overall layout scheme and steering characteristics of the rear wheelsteering mechanism.In addition, evaluate the steering performance of the rear wheelsteering mechanism based on the plane and space mapping method and study analysismethods of the rear wheel steering mechanism’s spatial kinematics of steeringcharacteristic. Further, study the checking method of the rear wheel steeringmechanism and rear leaf spring suspension when the rear wheels are moving up anddown to obtain the law of motion of the rear wheel steering mechanism and study themotion characteristics of the steering trapezoidal mechanism to evaluate theperformance of the rear wheel steering mechanism initially.Furthermore, establish thevirtual model of the rear wheel steering mechanism based on the ADAMS platformand establish the objective function using evaluation formula which obtained by theanalysis method of spatial kinematics of the rear wheel steering mechanism. Analyzethe influence on the characteristics of the rear wheel steering by some key points onthe rear wheel steering mechanism and optimize.Finally, building up the wholevehicle model of four wheel steering to analyze handling and stability evaluationindex before and after optimization of vehicle and the results show that improved handling and stability to provide the basis of the rear wheel steering mechanismdesign.
