With the continuous development of economy, the current situation of energy aswell as the environmental pollution problem is becoming increasingly serious.Though internal combustion engine plays an important role in source of power, it alsobrings a lot of energy consumption and environmental pollution problems. Study onhow to improve the fuel efficiency of internal combustion engine has become animportant breakthrough point for energy conservation and emissions reduction.Starting from the exhaust gas energy of gasoline engine, this paper analyzes thepotentiality of exhaust waste heat utilization and studies the adoption of Stirling cycleto recovery waste heat energy of exhaust gas from a gasoline engine by theoreticalanalysis and experimental investigation. At first the article introduces the principle and structure of Stirling engine, andillustrates the application of Stirling engine in waste heat recovery. GT-Powersoftware is used to establish the analysis model of gasoline engine and the engineexhaust energy as well as waste heat utilization potential is analyzed, which providesreference and basis for the design and analysis of waste heat recovery system.According to the characteristics of the engine exhaust gas energy, the β typeStirling engine with rhombic drive has been chosen for exhaust gas waste heatrecovery, and its basic structural parameters has been designed. The second orderadiabatic analysis is simplified based on the ideal adiabatic analysis and the procedurecode is written. By using the above method, the simulation analysis is carried out onthe Stirling engine. The circulating pressure and temperature changes of differentparts, heat exchanger parameters such as pressure loss and the change of work andenergy are derived, and a basic performance characteristic of the Stirling enginedesigned is obtained. On the basis of theoretical analysis an engine waste heat recovery system basedon Stirling cycle test bench is build, and experimental study is carried out on theperformance of the system. The test collects parameters such as the heater walltemperature, cylinder pressure, rotating speed, output power at a commonly usedgasoline engine speed conditions. The actual effect of waste heat recovery system iscalculated. The reason of the result as well as a preliminary conclusion has been derived. According to theoretical analysis and experimental results, the improvementideas of the waste heat recovery system is put forward, which provides an importantreference to further develop internal combustion engine exhaust gas waste heatrecycling research.
