Concrete-filled stainless steel tubes (CFSST) not only have the merits of theconventional concrete-filled steel tubes, but also have improved durabilityassociated with stainless steel. So the maintenance costs can be greatly reduced.Up to now, the research on CFSST column is still quite limited. This paper carries out experimental and numerical studies CFSST columns, and the main work can be summarised as follows:1. A review on the research of CFSST columns is given, and the research onthe bond behavior and effects of sustained loading on CFSST columns issummarised. The method and main contents of this paper were presented.2. Bond behavior between the steel tube and concrete in CFSST columnsTen push out tests were carried out, including5circular and5squareCFSST specimens. The main parameters are the concrete strength, concrete type, steel type and the roughness of stainless steel.Base on the push out tests, the finite element analysis (FEA) model isdeveloped using the finite element software ABAQUS. The FEA model can beused to investigate the mechanisms of the bond, and to conduct a parameteranalysis.3. Behaviour of CFSST columns under sustained loadingFourteen tests were carried out on14specimens, including4specimens toinvestigate the effect of concrete shrinkage and6specimens to investigate theeffect of concrete creep. The effect of long-term loading on the load-carryingcapacity of the columns was also carried out. FEA modelling was conducted anda parametric analysis was carried out.
