Thanks to the inherent characteristics of underwater targets, sonar andtorpedo can capture, distinguish and accurately attack it. In recent years, torpedoes have been rapdly developed as the development of the electronictechnologies and the information processing technologies that are one ofthe main underwater weapons that can automatically precision-guided andfind target. Warships and submarines are more likely to be attacked andbadly destroyed as intelligent torpedo is equiped. Application of fine echocharacteristics of submarine in torpedo homing that is important theoreticalvalue and the military prospect. In this paper, Benchmark submarines are selected as the researchobject, its theoretical prediction of echo characteristics and experimentalverification are studied. Engineering applications are throughout thearticele, the theoretical researches and the engineering applications areclosely together to solving specific practical problems. There are threespecific research contents:(1) Echo strength is an important parameter for active sonar equationand torpedo homing system which has a strong directional and dramaticchanges. For moving target, the echo strength fluctuate are widly as thedirection of incident sound waves and the relative motion between thetarget and torpedo change. The change rule is important for both torpedoesand submarines. Research on target echo characteristics base on torpedoguidance trajectory and the beam are important military value for firing. (2) Highlights information of underwater targets are important basisof scale identifications and precision attack for acoustic homing weapons. In order to towed line array sonar and torpedo homing planar array as thestarting point to carry out underwater target acoustic image simulationstudy of mathematics to forecasting echo characteristics of underwatercomplex target. The research fellow the method that from simple target tocomplex target, comparing the differences between the two-dimensionaland three-dimensional acoustic image of complex submarine and drawinga conclusion that the complex target is not regarded as point source whenthe target is near field conditions and multi-beam three-dimensional imagecan distinguish direction of horizontal and vertical and calculate the vitalparts of complex submarine target.(3) Size estimation technologies of underwater targets are difficulitfor underwater acoustic homing weapons and active sonar. Currently sizeestimation method of underwater target can only roughly estimate verticalhorizontal scale, or simply differentiate point target and scale target, notgive scale of target. In this paper, from the research submarine targetstrength variation with angle fluctuation probability distribution staring.Through selecting different estimation model to estimating the size of thesubmarine, it is proved higher precision that the results of size estimationof the submarine that opens up a new way for size estimation ofunderwater targets.(4) The experiment: Through model experimental study, it is provedthat the results of experiments match that of the theoretical predictive forwell, which laid a solid experimental foundation for theoretical predictionin the engineering application.
