The storage has become the essential issue in the chain of commodity circulationwith the continuous development of social economy. The scale of the storage isincreasing progressively to meet the continued growth of material storage. Largehigh-piled storages and rack storages come forth continuously, which put forwardhigher requirements for the design on storage fire protection and prevention.There are lots of combustible materials with high-challenge fire hazards instorages. The fire which will cause heavy damage to property spreads quickly, but theindoor fire hydrant system is not good to control fire in early stage because it isrestricted by the firemen’s arrival time. However, the main feature of the sprinklersystems is automatic alarm without manual operation. The sprinklers should spraywater in time by automatic detection which could eke out the hysteresis quality of theindoor fire hydrant system. Therefore, the sprinkler systems have become mainfacilities of fighting and controlling fire in storages.The key problems of the sprinkler systems in storage will be studied in this paper.The paper studies the types of storages and the classification standard of goods,analyzes the fire hazards of storages and suitable types for the sprinkler systems instorages. Through analyzing the defects of the current hydraulic calculation and thesubstance of the piping characteristic coefficient, a improved hydraulic calculationmethod is came up which can be used to calculate all the form of the pipingarrangements in engineering. Through contrasting the standard for the installation ofsprinkler systems at home and abroad, intensive study the types of sprinklers, theprinciple of work, installation conditions, performance parameters, etc. By the end,project case points out the matters need attention of the sprinkler systems in storages.Through calculating the design discharge and demand pressure of the systems withusing ESFR sprinkler, reach a conclusion that the design discharge of systems is threetimes as much as the most hydraulically demanding branch line’s because the headloss of the main pipe is very small and negligible.
