Most of wind power farms were located in the remote or offshore area,the rugged environment made the wind power converter easy to bemalfunctioned and hard to be maintained. Aimed at this problem, a newintelligent converter modularization technology was proposed in this paper,which was PEBB(Power Electronic Building Block) modularizationtechnology. The converter worked more stable and became more compactbecause of this technology; at the same time, the technology contained thefunction of online intelligent fault diagnosis, owned to the function theworking condition of the converter could be mastered timely and the faultedmodule could be posited accurately which made the faulted module bechanged timely; the function improved the maintainability of the convertergreatly. Some research was done for the task:Firstly, the whole converter system based on PEBB modules wasstudied. The models of two side filters were built, and the control strategyof converter was studied. Meanwhile, the device parameter of convertermain power circuit was designed and calculated, the devices containedgenerator side filter, grid side filter, direct current capacitor andIGBT(Insulated Gate Bipolar Transistor) modules.Secondly, the IGBT modules which were the important component inthe PEBB modules were studied in detail, especially for the current sharingwhich existed in the parallel IGBT modules. The influence factors ofdynamic and static current sharing were elaborated, the theory andexperiment showed how to control the imbalanced current between theparallel modules.Thirdly, the PEBB module and parallel PEBB modules were researchedin detail. The topological structures of single module and modules in parallel were elaborated, the underlying control system were introduced, thecirculating current in the parallel PEBB modules was analyzed as animportant point in this section, meanwhile the solutions of restrainingcirculating current were compared. The MATLAB/Simulink simulationmodel was built to verified the different solutions and simulation resultsshowed the correctness of theoretical analysis. The experiment platform wasbuilt to verified the reasonability and correctness of the final selectedsolution.Finally, the thermal optimization of PEBB module was researched. Theheat dissipation of hot parts in the PEBB module was calculated, includedIGBT module, inductance, direct current capacitor. Different ICEPAKsimulation models were built, reprocessing analysis and get the optimizedresult for the PEBB module experiment.
