The solar tower thermal power technology is one of the most economical ways to produce solar electricity in large scale. Because of the intermittency and instability of solar energy, it raises high demand for the power plant to stabilize the power generation. Meanwhile, it’s necessary to improve the system efficiency and security in order to achieve large-scale usage of solar power technology. Therefore, it is extremely significant to simulate tower solar thermal system and to optimize its operation.In this thesis, the simulation and operation strategy optimization method of solar tower thermal power system are studied. The main contributions of this thesis are as follows.(1) The characteristics of TSA(PHOEBUS Technology Program Solar Air Receiver) thermal power system in different operation modes are analyzed, and the overall model of TSA thermal power systems is established by the simultaneous equations method, based on dynamic mathematical models of subsystems. Moreover, the dynamic characteristics of the overall model are studied by simulation.(2) The characteristics of Solar Two thermal power system are analyzed, then dynamic mathematical models of subsystems including receiver, cold/hot tank and steam generator are developed and the main physical properties of molten nitrate are calculated. Then, the overall model of Solar Two thermal power systems is established by the simultaneous equations method, and the dynamic characteristics of the overall model are studied by simulation.(3) With electricity price taken into consideration, an operation strategy optimization method is proposed based on the simultaneous mechanism model of the solar tower power plant. The Control Vector Parameterization approach is adopted to solve the optimization problem, so that the optimal control schemes of TSA and Solar Two thermal power systems are obtained in the trading modes of real-time price and fixed price.The simulation results demonstrate that the developed overall models of TSA and Solar Two are able to describe the characteristics of the systems with fast simulation speed, and the proposed operation strategy optimization method can make solar tower plants obtain the maximum benefit.
