Artillery, as important conventional weapon, plays an irreplaceable role in modern warfare. The barrel is a key component of artillery, and its quality not only is the key factor affecting the main technical and tactical index, such as firing accuracy, initial velocity, firing rate and life, but also related to the safety and reliability of the whole artillery weapon system in the process of using. Therefore, it is especially necessary to detect the gun barrel bore periodically. But the traditional method of gun barrel bore detection is judging by eyes. It is a qualitative observation, not a quantitative measurement. The detection labor intensity is large and the efficiency is low. At present, the research and development of new gun barrel bore measurement system is the hotspot.In this paper, optical imaging knowledge, computer technology, step motor theory, mechanical design and image processing technology are used to develop a system for gun barrel bore ablation measurement. It can obtain the high-resolution panoramic image of gun barrel bore in real-time, and eventually mosaic into rectangular image. The corresponding parameters of defects such as area can also be obtained. Firstly, based on a large number of relevant documents, various gun barrel bore measurement technology both home and abroad has been understood in depth. The overall design of the system has been completed. Secondly, the optical imaging system and Electromechanical system have been designed and realized, including imaging scheme selection, lighting system design, step motor and drive selection, the design of support structure and drive structure. Finally, aiming at the inherent error of the measurement system, the improved algorithm is used to correct the distortion of panoramic image. The error after correction is controlled at sub-pixel level.The development of the measurement system, not only can reduce the difficulty of gun barrel bore ablation measurement, but also greatly improves the efficiency of the artillery maintenance. The effective image information of gun barrel bore can be obtained through using this measurement system. Then the damage of the gun barrel bore can be distinguished accurately, and the damage location, area and level can also be determined. In summary, the development of the measurement system provides effective support for improving the quality and efficiency of the artillery maintenance and ensuring the firing accuracy and safety of artillery.
