The overall stability of steel beam is the problem.that design and construction should be carefully considered. In.general,There are two methods to improve the bearing capacity of.the overall stability of steel beam. That is to strengthen the compression flange width and lateral support. Increase the compression flange width can improve the out of plane beam stiffness,so it can improve the overall stability of steel beams. Lateral support by reduce the out of plane calculation length in order to improve the overall stability bearing capacity of steel beam. This paper mainly through the change of I-shaped compression flange width and lateral support position,To study the effect of simply supported steel beam of the he overall stability. The research mainly includes three parts:the theoretical analysis、the finite element analysis and the comparative analysis of the results. The main contents are as follows:① The theoretical analysis. Firstly, from the essence of the overall stability of steel beams, Introduction The traditional theory of integral stability of steel beam integral stability and calculation of beam type. Then to the monosymmetric I-shaped section which have no lateral supports,by using the energy method to derive the critical moment from different boundary and from different load. Finally,To the lateral support beam, It introduces several calculation method considering the mutual restriction between the beam section. It is the “NT " methods and Professor Chen Shaofan、Dux,PF to improve the " NT” method.② The finite element analysis. The paper uses ABAQUS software as the analysis tools, carries out eigenvalue buckling analysis buy considering the lateral support conditions and changes of the compression flange width with total 15 m.And take the method provided by Code for design of steel structures(GB50017-2003) to obtain the overall stability critical load theoretical solutions;AS to the simply supported steel beams with two supports, use the method proposed by Professor Chen Shaofan(theoretical solution 2) is calculated for its approximation theoretical solution.③ The comparative analysis. In some form of loads,The kinds of overall stability critical loads are compared to examine the influence of lateral boundary conditions and the compression flange width on overall stability carrying capacity of steel beams in this form of loads. Then the overall stability critical loads theoretical solutions and the overall stability critical loads finite element solutions are compared to evaluate the accuracy and applicability of the theoretical methods.
