The quicken pace of urbanization leads to the rapid expansion of small cities, with the fast urban motorization following, the non-motorized traffic right of way with inherent advantages has been challenged. Phenomina such as traffic jam, frequent accidents, on-road parking, road service facility messiness severely lowered the operating efficiency of the city, additionally, heavy energy consumption has taken place, whereas some relevant aspects which work negatively follow this step, such as urban energy crisis, road envioronment erosion, as well as the unpleasant view of the road. Whereas as to the citizens’soaring advocation of livable and healthy city living envioronment, the new mode of china’s traffic and land usage-green transportation mode(5D) emerges. It proposes to travel by green and low-carbon means such as walking, cycling,public trasportation, etcetera. And to some exent, it depends on decent road space construction. Hence, guiding green transportation with the method of road landscape construction, altering the primary standardized road landscape construction by proposing green transportation, these two aspects are mutual and reciprocal, therefore, it’s of vital importance to do some research and discussion on them.The road landscape planning of small cities in this article proceed under the direction of the theoretical framework for green transportation mode. In the first place, it generalized the macroscopic feature of the green transportation by studying the theory. Next, by analyzing the interaction factors of green transportation and road landscape, it analyzes the connection factors of the land usage, road system and road landscape on a macro level, discusses the interaction among traveling method, traveling experience, traveling energy-consumption and road landscape on a micro level. Then respectively comes up with following measures to improve and optimize the road landscape on both macro and micro levels based on the guidance of green transportation. On a macro level, urban land usage should adopt the compact developing land usage mode, enhance mixing degree and developing intensity. Reducing the trip distance.increase the proportion of green transportation, decrease the trip cost and demand radically.On a micro level,learning from advanced foreign experience,we take system atic design and planning for the road cross-sectional space,the intersection of landscape,road space,road greening,road facility of pedestrian traffic,non-motorized traffic and the bus traffic respectively to coordinate theoptimization of internal and external road landscape system.At last, the author takes the JIajiang County Sichuan Province as example, the questionnaire survey and statistic analysis was administered to the road traffic condition and road landscape of Jiajiang County. Based on the theoretical research and practical application which we had talked about, the author planed and designed the road landscape of small cities under green transportation mode. Finally, the empirical research was proceeded to provide a new idea with respect to the construction of road landscape of Jiajiang County.
