Study On The Spatial Development Strategy Of Tanghe Under The Background Of New Urbanization

"National new urbanization plan(2014-2020)" clearly stated "to optimize the size of the structure of towns, while strengthening the driving function of big cities, accelerating the development of small cities, thus to promote the coordinated development of all kinds of cities and towns " This shows that small and medium cities occupy an important position in the rapid process of urbanization in the moment. With wide coverage, involving a large population and low barriers of entry, small and medium cities has great potential to undertake the transfer of rural population. Therefore, in the next twenty years, small and medium cities will be main battlefield to enhance the quality of urbanization, and to promote the rapid development of new urbanization.In this context, this study is about the spatial development strategies of the small cities surrounding major cities in southern Henan. Although the southern part of Henan has been in the period of rapid urbanization, but urbanization level is the lowest in the province. According to "The new urbanization in Henan Province plan 2014-2020," an explicit proposal to enhance the development of regional central cities was presented, in order to better play the leading role and scale effect. This brings opportunities for development of the small city located around the major cities in the southern Henan. In this paper, the spatial impact on the surrounding small cities from the major cities is studied from three aspects: the level of economic development,the function spillover trend, and regional transportation construction. On the basis of the urbanization stage, economic characteristics and spatial characteristics of small cities in which to judge the development stage, this paper provides guidance of spatial development strategies from the region and the small city itself these two aspects.Finally, taking Tanghe as an example, by reviewing the central city’s evolution of urban spatial development and its characteristics, combined with the impact of spatial development of Tanghe, from Nanyang central urban area as a regional center city, and the development stage of Tanghe which is the fundamental basis, this study draw Tanghe central city’s space development needs. At last, the spatial development strategy of Tanghe central city is proposed from five levels: the city orientation, regional integration development, interior space optimization of central city, promoting social carrying capacity, the highlighting methods of city’s cultural and spatial characteristics.
