The role of guide vanes is to generate airflow pre-rotation, and it is widely used in turbo machinery. The axial fans are popularly used in many industries, so the design of axial fan is always a favor of many fan engineers. With the development of computer technology, it is a trend that the axial fans are designed by a computer. The variable inlet guide vanes are symmetric. Due to its symmetry, the vane has the same performance in positive and negative setting angles. In this paper, we discuss positive setting angles. Flow characteristics at different angles of attack of guide vanes is researched. The results show that when the setting angles is less than 30 degree, the flow is steady, there is only a pair of vortex behind trailing edge. And when the setting angle is more than 30 degree, the flow separation and swirl appears on the suction surface.Based on the given volume flow rate, pressure and rotate speed, designing single impeller axial fan. Determining the hub ratio and calculating pressure coefficient and other parameters by calculating the specific speed. The blade is divided into seven computing sections. Calculating parameters of each section according to arbitrary vortex flow. Obtaining a single arc center-line through equations. Improved airfoil shape has been designed by NACA65-206. The center of gravity for each section was trimmed on the same radius. Finally, the blade was obtained. Fan performance was explored at different installation angle of the blade through experiments and numerical simulation. The result shows that the valves of numerical and the values of experiment are satisfied. The method of design in this paper is reasonable.
