Heavy vibration and noise exist in a 750 kV oil-immersed shunt reactor because of its huge capacity. Electromagnetism and magnetostriction in an iron core are the excitation sources of vibration and noise when a reactor works. The two excitations cause the vibration of the iron core, the vibration is transmitted to an oil tank by solid connections and fluid. Noise comes from the vibration of both the iron core and the oil tank.To sove the problem of vibration and noise effectively, the paper carries on detailed analysis about the electromagnetic excitations and vibration sources. The mechanism of vibration and noise in an reactor is studied through a lot of tests and simulation computations with the help of many documents and the ANSYS software. Specific work contains:the electromagnetic simulation of the iron core; modal tests of an oil tank, an iron disc and iron cores; bending tests of iron core models. The paper confirms the mechanism of vibration and noise in a 750 kV oil-immersed shunt reactor, confirms the specific forms of the electromagnetic excitations, gets the way to simulate the lamination structure of the iron core, sets up the orthotropic CAE models for the iron core and the iron disc. The simulation results of the oil tank, the iron disc and the iron cores show a good coincidence with test results. The paper is good for subsequent study on the problem of vibration and noise of the 750 kV oil-immersed shunt reactor.
