With the rapid development of automobile industry, automobile has become one of the home necessities for most of families. Car headlights, as the most important part of cars, not only provide lighting for the driver, but also make the car’s exterior more beautiful because of its proper design. LED (Light Emitting Diode) is called the fourth generation light source, which has many advantages, such as small size, high efficiency, energy saving, short response time, etc. especially the size of LED provides a convenient for headlight design, the LED lighting system is more advanced compared to other conventional light sources such as halogen lamps, it fully meets the needs of automobile manufacturers at evolutionary design, and gets rid of the fetter of old headlight system, and to satisfy the people’s requirements of car appearance and safety performance, But, the LED light source, especially the high-power LED integrated source, is very different from the traditional light sources in structures and optical properties, as a result, the existing lighting system design methods cannot be applied to the design of LED lamps. So those methods are also can not applied to the secondary optical design for LED integrated source. In this paper, design and application of optical LED lamp are investigated. The main contents are summarized as follows:In the context of ECE and national criteria, LED lamps are researched in this paper; we use headlight design software named LucidShape for designing the optical part, we Try to use two different ways to implement the design, that is, PES (elliptical parabolic projection systems) way and FFR (free-form surface reflector) way,two kinds of vehicle headlamps are designed with different structures, additionally, we design a daytime running lights for passenger cars by MATLAB. The headlamps we designed are the LED lights modules and the integration of low-beam and high-beam respectively. Each module includes a light source, an optical system and the driver circuit. The other its upper and lower reflector lamp beads are arranged on both reflectors in the middle of the base. Daytime running lamp is light guiding bar, which is based on the principle of optical theory.Finally, since the process of headlight optical design includes from design concept to mold, need to go through a lot of complicated steps. The problem of any one part would result in errors, in the optical system, which is limited by the structure and space. This design of LED lamps project in terms of shape or regulatory compliance have reached the desired results. the result shows that the design method and simulation method used in this project is technically feasible, which not only will lower the development fees and the final costs, but also, with the continuous improvement of the LED performance and luminous flux, the LED headlamps is no longer a specific part of luxury cars, obviously, it will be broadly equipped in standard cars.
