With the rapid development of network and information, the number of data centers which as the information system infrastructure obtained the unprecedented construction and become a driving force of the sustainable rapid development of science and technology because of its technology and scale. The operation of the large number of data centers consumes huge energy that brought heavy pressure for environment and human activities, so we must take some measures to reduce energy consumption in the data centers, especially in using renewable energy and improving the efficiency of energy use.The energy consumption of data center mainly include of IT equipment, air conditioning system, power equipment and lighting. The IT equipment is the main equipment and the others are auxiliary equipment, and the energy consumption of air conditioning system in the auxiliary equipment accounted for nearly 40% in the whole data center. At present, the mainstream approach of reducing energy consumption of air-conditioning system in the data centers are the energy-saving of air conditioning systems and equipment, indoor air distribution and optimization and the use of natural cold source that include both the direct use of outdoor air and the chilled water air conditioning system, which is the research contents of this paper. The data center in this paper adopted a manufacturer production of air-cooled water chillers with natural cold source, which will bring the economic benefits and environmental benefits.In this paper, the study methods of the project including of engineering test, software simulation and theory analysis, which will evaluation the effects of air-cooled water chillers with natural cold source that used in the air conditioning system of data center. The mainly contents of this paper divided into the following two aspects:On the one hand, this paper conducted a tracking test and record for the project which used the air-cooled water chillers with natural cold source for the air conditioning system, testing the coefficient of performance of the unit during the operation period in different seasons and recording the changing data of all the equipment in the data center and the different PUE of the data center in different conditions, which leads to a calculation about the economic and environmental benefits. The energy saving of the data center comes from two aspects, one is the changing of seasons and the other is used the natural cooling coil, but the latter is the point in this paper and the former must eliminated. For eliminating the reason of seasons, this paper simulating the traditional mechanical refrigeration unit used in the data center by De ST software, based on the both testing and simulating, this paper calculating the net economic benefits and environmental benefits due to the application of natural cooling coil.On the other hand, this paper taking the natural cold source of air cooled chiller in the air conditioning system of data center to the rest areas of the country by the theoretical analysis. In this aspect, firstly analysis objective conditions can use natural cold source of in our country, then combining with the different climate in more than 200 countries and the operation condition of the unit, obtained the result of energy-saving percentage in our country. Then this paper divided the percent into five areas according to the way of building thermal partition that conclude the suitable areas in our country for the unit. At last, this paper choice some typical cities which in the cold region and calculation the economic benefit theoretically.For the aim of reducing the tense of energy and using the renewable energy, this paper study the air-cooled water chillers with natural cold source used in the data center through practice and theoretical analysis. The results of the study will provide the reference and guidance to the construction of the new data center in the future.
