With more fossil energy consumption, energy crisis became a hot social topic recently. Energy conservation and emission reduction for transportation vehicles is the main and most important subject in the future. There are two aspects of energy conservation and emission reduction development, one is develop and use new energy, the other is lightweight design for vehicles. China, as the world largest Auto Producer and seller, is considering the development of Electric Bus as the focus of the new energy vehicle.. City bus as a common and frequently used in normal life makes problems in urban development because of its huge amount of energy consumption and emission. Electric bus is one of the best ways to help solve energy conservation and emission reduction.The range of the electric bus is the bottleneck problem, more range means hither bus operation efficiency and more lifetime of the battery with less charge times. Lightweight is the best way to enlarge the range of electric bus. Lightweight bus construction can make more room for extra batteries, on the other hand it can increase the range by improve the battery efficiency.In this article we are going to make a research on the lightweight design of the Brilliance electric integral bus. Through FEM by using the simulation software Ls-Dyna, we can get the strength, rigidity and modes of the bus structure. And analysis sensitivity of each structure beam to the strength and rigidity of the whole bus body structure by using the Optistruct of the Hyper works. With the sensitivity analysis, we redistribute the thickness of each beam to make the weight lightest and keep the strength and rigidity better than the old one.At last, it is verified that the bus weight decrease by 201 kg and the safety of the new design is better. It means that new design electric bus can increase the range by at least 20-50 km.
