The problem of rotor position detection for permanent magnet spherical motor(PMSM) is studied in this paper. The main work of the paper is as follows:1. The structure and the dynamic model of permanent magnet spherical motor is analyzed, and the description method of rotor position is studied.2. A new method for measuring the rotor position based on single optical sensor is proposed in this paper, instead of the measuring method based on double optical sensors. And the two kinds of measuring methods are simulated and compared.3. The closed-loop control of PMSM is simulated. The location and speed detected are feedback to the front of the control system, to compared with the given position and velocity. The deviation is applied to control the system, getting the real-time tracking error for location and speed of the closed-loop system. This method makes the output shaft of the rotor working on the desired trajectory, and to realize high precision trajectory tracking control.The work of the paper is supported by the National Natural Science Foundation of China (51100771,51307001), the Natural Science Foundation of Anhui Province (1308085QE82), and the National Science Research Key Program of Anhui Provincial Education Department (KJ2013A012).
