Aircraft played a very important role in the protection of national security. So, it was very important for the tactical flight to have a effective flight path optimization. The article was mainly about vertical flight profile design and algorithms which based on improved particle swarm algorithm, in order to reach the purpose of longitudinal flight trajectory optimization.This paper described the model and principles of aircraft vertical trajectory optimization. Firstly, a mathematical model of the aircraft was established which including sports model and atmospheric model. Followed by the principle of trajectory optimization, this paper introduces the aircraft flight environment, including three main environment model and its advantages and disadvantages. At last, flight path was optimized by Ponte aurous in minimum value principle and energy state approximation principle.This paper expounded the basic particle swarm optimization (PSO) algorithm and system background, principle, process. Nowadays, the particle swarm algorithm was widely used in decision support, multi-objective optimization, signal processing, pattern recognition and other fields.On the basis of the further study of the basic particle swarm, I had improved particle swarm optimization (PSO) algorithm and applied the method to realize the trajectory optimization. It mainly includes the climb, cruise period and decline period,the optimization principle of the objective function which was to climb and fall with cruise period of the structure of the adaptive value function, setting of inertia weight and particle swarm update. Then this paper discussed the improvement of particle swarm particle velocity, position update. It gave the improved particle swarm algorithm to optimize the process, respectively for cruise segment, climbing and falling cruise cost optimization.Finally, the example was simulated by Matlab software and the result analyses were given. The general principle of saving fuel was to reduce the rising, cruise period rise, increase the altitude, shorten the distance of climbing, Increase cruise altitude and cruise distance. With the minimum time for the flight performance indicators, it took the long distance, low altitude and more fuel consumption. It was contradictory for the least fuel and the most direct flight mode during the actual operation. Therefore, according to the actual condition to select appropriate mode of operation or the actual need of the time cost index included, getting the balance to accomplish the mission successfully.
