The article show how to design and develop the individual-oriented query system insides of cities and between Advanced Traveler Information System(ATIS) and Geographic Information System(GIS) from these steps below: Data collection and processing, Selection of data organization methods, Design of travel query algorithm and Development of the whole system. Firstly, determine the query needs of individual travelers through requirement analysis. Then design data collection methods and principles in order to build digital map: use Arc GIS Desktop tools to deal with spatial alignment and Digitalization of the raster image; Use LR(Linear Referencing) Tools to establish attribute data and spatial data in query area of the map. Next, select Geodatabase as the Geographic data model by comparison of other models. Make a detailed analysis of query algorithm about self-drive and traveling by bus and propose a new query algorithm based on buffer area analysis in GIS; determine the connection point between cities by buffer distance using GIS. Use Arc GIS Engine COM to develop the system which provides the optimal path to individual travelers to shorten the travel distance and reduce travel cost.
