With the fast development of economic and culture in china, people nowadays pursuita spiritual life of far more higher quality than ever before. As the carrier of culture andrecreational activities, the theatrical buildings gain more and more attention. However, thetheatrical buildings in use these days are almost built in early1980s. The monotonicity infunction of buildings can’t meet the aesthetic and functional requirements today, let alonethe volume. Diversification、upsizing and comprehensiveness are what we need now. Sincerecently, many cities have been investing quite a lot of human and financial resources inconstruction of modern theatrical buildings which are multifunctional. Some of these newlyappeared buildings are the combination of concert hall, opera hall, theater hall and library.Even some are becoming the culture center and land mark of the city where they’re in. Indesign of theatrical buildings, the correspondence and continuity between spaces should betaken more consideration than the design of a single space. For that reason, attentions needto be concerned in the use of transition space. Not only the sense of sight, hearing andtouching can affect people in buildings, they also affected by the process of actionspsychologically. In the spaces of theatrical buildings, transition space conjoins the innerand outer spaces for traffics and the transition of psychology. For the later, it acts like a’guide’ to concentrate the attentions of the audience into the stage. This paper researched the relationship between the transition space of large theatricalbuildings and the behaviors of who in them, by exploring the psychological activities ofusers. Based on the physical spaces of large theatrical building, this research analyzed theshape of space, the function of transition space, behavioral pattern of people and the designelements. Then, with some examples of domestic and foreign buildings, this work revealedthe essential requirements of users for a theatrical building and gave the basic principlesand implementation method for improvement of the design of theatrical buildings. Anysubject about relationship between the users and buildings must involve the correspondingdiscussion of users and spaces in buildings. So, this paper expands around the discussion ofspaces in buildings, based on the theoretical principles of building space. As we mentionedbefore, the psychological activities’ effects cannot be ignored, this paper also covered thistopic. With adopted the theories of behavior and psychology, the methods of documentaryresearch, combined theorical and empirical research methods, we explored the feasibledesign principles of large theatrical buildings.
