With the development and progress of society, people’s sense of dependence on vehicle becomes more and more strong, causing enormous pressure on road transport and a number of security incidents. How to make the operation of vehicle more efficient and ease traffic pressure is widespread concerned by the social and enterprises. Over the years the development of modern information technology provides an excellent condition for vehicle monitoring system. Some vehicle monitoring systems based on the traditional relational database have been widely used. However, with the growth of vehicle numbers and monitoring data, the back-end database system becomes more and more overwhelmed, we can see that the real-time performance of system is reduced and the expansion of system is difficult. In recent years, the development of cloud computing provides a new idea to solve these problems. This paper presents a solution that makes cloud storage platform Hadoop be applied to the vehicle monitoring system. The main contents of this paper are as follows:(1) Analyzes the shortcomings of vehicle monitoring system using the traditional relational database, as well as the advantages of using HBase which is based on the distributed file system HDFS of Hadoop.(2) Describes the goals and requirements of vehicle monitoring service system, and then proposes the design of entire system.(3) The research focuses on how to make Hadoop be applied to the vehicle monitoring service system and how MINA framework works in the gateway communications system. And develop a vehicle monitoring service system which owns the functions of management, monitoring and alarm. After testing, the result shows that the system has great performance with HBase, and has good scalability. This system can be applied in enterprises, taxi companies, logistics companies and long-distance passenger and freight companies. It plays a significant role in improving car safety and efficiency.
