The content of this research is about the attenuation characteristics of ultrasonicpropagation in inhomogeneous medium. Atmospheric particles, petroleum, building mud,urban sewage and other all belong to inhomogeneous medium, the parameters’ detection ofthese inhomogeneous media has very important significance for industrial measurement. Theinfluence of the variation of the medium parameters on the ultrasonic attenuation characteristicwas studied to detect the medium parameters. The study has an important role in guiding theultrasound in inhomogeneous media parameter measurements.In this paper, the theory of the ultrasonic attenuation characteristics in inhomogeneousmedium has been studied firstly; then the MATLAB software for numerical simulation wascarried out; finally, the experimental process of ultrasonic transmission characteristics wasverified. According to the acoustic wave equation, we analyzed the ultrasonic signalpropagation and attenuation characteristics in the inhomogeneous medium. According to thetheoretical research we know that, the ultrasonic signal propagation and attenuationcharacteristics in the inhomogeneous medium is related to medium density, medium viscosity,particle size and ultrasonic frequency. MATLAB was used to carry out numerical simulationstudy on ultrasonic attenuation characteristic in the inhomogeneous medium, simulated theinfluence trend of the variation of the ultrasonic frequency and medium parameters to themedium viscous attenuation, heat conduction attenuation and scattering attenuation, andconcluded the theory conclusions. For further understanding the influence degree of theattenuation factor, a set of experimental apparatus is built to measure the ultrasonic signalattenuation characteristics in inhomogeneous medium, the echo amplitude of different density,particle size and ultrasonic frequency was measured under certain experimental conditions.Through the experimental study, we know the density, particle size and ultrasonicfrequency have an important influence on the echo amplitude, and the experimental results arein accordance with the theoretical results of numerical simulation.
