In recent years, with the development of China’s automobile industry and people’s living standard improving, higher performance of the steering system is needed. More and more vehicles have equipped with electric power steering (EPS),for its energy-saving environmental protection and good stability in these steering systems. One of the booster motors of EPS is Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor (PMSM),its simple structure,long life, soft noise are excellent features.In this article, firstly, the PMSM is chosen as the booster motor of EPS system.The control theory is studied and the Vector Control Method is chosen because of its simplicity and stability. Put forward control (return control and damping control) strategy using torque-angle sensor of BI.The mathematic models of PMSM and steering system are built. In Matlab/Simulink EPS models are built and the return control and damping control are simulated. The results show that after EPS system joined the return control, the steering wheel can rapidly return to the middle position, avoided the vibration, the control strategy are correct and effective. After EPS system joined the damping control, the stability of the steering operation is effectively improved.Secondly the hardware circuit is designed including the power part, the electronic control unit, CAN interface part, motor driving part and so on. STM32F103ZET6is chosen as the core controller chip.The IR2136chip is chosen as the driving chip. Three-phase inverter bridge circuit is designed using MOSFET.Finally according to GB EPS controller real vehicle test which includes steering portability test and steering return test are carried out to make the control strategy and hardware system are feasible and effective.
