In resent years, with the high power air-cooling motors emerged in a largeamount, the coolers become more and more widespread to be used in motors. Ittakes experiments as a main way to study the cooler in our country at present, but the way of numerical simulation was taken rarely. However, the numericalanalysis method has many advantages, so it is worth to utilize and develop. Asfar as cooler, if it was studied by the method of taking flow field andtemperature field coupling calculation, it can not only obtain the distribution offlow field and temperature field precisely of the cooler and lay a foundation forthe analysis and optimization in the future, but also save money and decreasemanufacturing period.According to the theory of Computational Fluid Dynamic(CFD) andNumerical Heat Transfer(NHT), a YJKK500-4、2500kW medium size highvoltage asynchronous motor was taken as an example. The3D model of coolingsystem was created according to its actual size of the structures, and then it wassolved. Because the cooling system of motor has a complex structure, it’s wholemodel couldn’t be created. According to the characteristics of structure of thecooling system, it is divided into external fan zone and cooler zone. The twozones were connected by proper boundary conditions. Analyzed the result offlow field and temperature field of the two zones separately, and calculated theperformance curves of external fan and cooler. And then did experiments toverify the result of numerical calculation of the two zones. On that basis, optimized the structure of external fan and cooler, and verified the optimizationschemes by the result of numerical calculation. The result demonstrates that theoptimized cooling system has more efficient and stronger heat dissipationpotential. Optimized the structure of cooled system can provide new method andtheory for manufacturing efficient and high power motors in the future.
